Dale Rothenberg

Dale Rothenberg stammt aus Connecticut im äußersten Nordosten der USA. Er schloss in diesem Jahr sein Studium am Oberlin Conservatory ab. Neben der Fotografie ist seine zweite große Leidenschaft die Musik. Bei der Recherche stieß ich auf eine äußerst beeindruckende Sache. In einem Interview mit Abram Goglanian von The Phoblographer erläutert Dale, wie es dazu kam, seine ganz eigene Kamera zu bauen. Wir reden hier allerdings nicht von einer einfachen Lochkamera. Aus drei verschiedenen Polaroid Apperaten bastelte er sich seine ganz eigene 4×5 Messsucherkamera.

At the time, I couldn’t afford a good medium format rangefinder, and the painfully slow and complex method of photographing with a large format camera was a little frustrating. I wanted something with a lot of quality that I could hold in my hand and use quickly. (Quelle: The Phoblographer)

I’ve also been inspired by work I’ve seen posted on websites such as flickr by photographers like Mando Alvarez, Steven Brooks, and Patrick Joust. There’s actually a fairly large group of very talented photographers making work in Baltimore, including Patrick Joust, and I think they’re all awesome. Inspiration really comes from everywhere, not just other photographers working at night; I’ve tried to make it into my own narrative with my own set of ideas, and I feel like the photos departed from my initial inspiration after the first few weeks.
