Unfassbar beeindruckend was Manjari Sharma in ihrem Portfolio zeigt. Sie lädt Leute zu sich nach Hause ein, um nichts anderes zu tun als sich zu duschen. Währenddessen fotografiert sie diese Leute in einem ihrer intimsten Momente. Herausgekommen ist eine wunderbare Fotoreihe mit dem Titel “The Shower Series”. Aber lest selbst was sie zu sagen hat:

Manjari Sharma über The Shower Series:
For the last few months I have been inviting people to visit my apartment and allow me to photograph them in a very intimate space: my bathroom. I have alo been inviting them to take a shower as I continue to shoot them.

Many of my subjects have shared intimate details of their life with me and every new person in the shower brings a brand new allegory. With every new visit I’ve had a new protagonist. A new plot and a new parable of hurt and heroism that has come undone under my shower. Secretly I have been told by my subjects that it is thrilling and adventuresome to be in my shower; secretly cheating my traditional and tame Indian upbringing I live through all of my subjects. Fighting their wars and braving their fears and for those few hourse, we are connected through this controversial pious space.

Over time it is such a thrill to see how images go through a life cycle. They are born as someone’s poetic reality, ferment,  graduate into history and immortalize themselves into someone else’s mythology. The whole time as we chase answers through our photography, it’s incredible to see that the answers in fact lie within our very own photos.

Manjari Sharma kommt ursprünglich aus Indien. Sie lebt und arbeitet aber, wenn sie nicht gerade auf Reisen ist, in New York City. Ihr Handwerk erlernte sie im Zuge eines Studiums am Columbus College of Art and Design.
